Library Approved Halloween Book Crafts

Hello again!

Fall is definitely in full swing and Halloween is on the way! If you are still looking for some inspiration for crafts this season, just look to books! Working in a library I see plenty of unsavory print materials that take the long ride in the D-I-S-C-A-R-D bin- to that quaint farm far away where other books roam and run free… 😉 . But what if they could have another purpose? A second life? This Halloween season, grab a book or two from your local Good Will to create your Halloween crafts. “Check out” these Library Approved Halloween Book Crafts from around the web!

DIY Fall Leaves Paper Wreath

Hello everyone!

Today I wanted to share my process for making this festive fall leaves wreath entirely out of paper! For the fall season I was tasked with creating an easy display in our library for cookbooks. I decided to feature “Fall Foods.” With the help of the Silhouette Cameo, I created this wreath in an afternoon. This project is also perfect for creating a welcoming autumn door wreath or mantel decor on a budget by utilizing your unused paper at home!DIY Fall Leaves Paper Wreath

Library Display: Banned Books Week

Hello!

This week is Banned Books Week (September 27th through October 3rd) and I am excited to share with you the banners that I created for the lobby of our library.

Although we are a smaller branch, and don’t always have challenged materials on hand to feature, I was asked to create a display to promote awareness. I knew right away I wanted to make a big impact in our beautiful windowed lobby for all to see. And what better way to represent Banned Books Week than with a book burning? Kidding, of course, but I did want to make a similar statement with this display.

Fast Fabulous Thank You Cards

Fast Fabulous Thank You CardsHello!

Today I wanted to share with you one of my recent paper craft projects- these fast, but fabulous, thank you cards.

With the exception of the “Thank You” I added on the inside of the card, this project needs no fancy die cut machine. Just a pair of scissors and a ruler (I used my Fiskars paper trimmer to save time.) Even a non-crafter can tackle this DIY.

A few simple layers and beautiful patterned card stock with foil really make this project stand out. These little cards are perfect for saying thanks- fast.

Freebie: Watercolor Journal Cards

Watercolor Jounral Cards Example
Hello everyone!

I’ve been on a crafting hiatus (for a whole weekend) attending a friend’s wedding in Portland. The wedding was beyond beautiful and Portland was amazing- I’d never been before. I’ve come back with plenty of inspiration for my next project and who knows- I just may put a bird on it. 😉

In the meantime, I have a freebie for the Project Life-ers out there. Printable watercolor journal cards! (Because watercolor everything is so trendy right now!)

Craft Storage with Ikea Tjena Boxes

Hello and welcome back!

I’ve been on an organization kick, so today I wanted to share with you one of my favorite storage solutions- the Tjena Boxes from Ikea. These $3.99 life savers could be used in every room of the house (and probably will) but I fell in love with them for making my craft room so neat and tidy.

Craft Storage with Ikea Tjena Boxes

The Tjena boxes with built-in dividers are perfect for journaling cards, paints, embellishments, tools, or any kind of craft Item you could think of. They are also low-profile and fit perfectly in drawers for easy access storage.

This is truly one of my favorite purchases of all Ikea’s ready-to-assemble treasures. I love that the box dividers are easily cut to make larger compartments as necessary. I simply cut one section to make room for my 4×6″ Project Life cards, my 2×2″ cards, and my corner round punches. The Tjena boxes have also made it so easy to arrange my watercolor, gouache, and acrylic paints by color. And if you are wondering, I store most of my craft inventory in an Ikea Expedite/Hopen combination setup in my office closet- which I will be sure to show you more of in a future post!

SignatureThanks for stopping by! I’m always up for more craft room or organizing ideas- so feel free to comment or share a link to your ideas! If you are on an organizing spree like me be sure to follow my Clean it and Put it Away board on Pinterest. It’s full of things we should probably be doing instead of browsing on Pinterest. Go figure. 😉

Project Life Mood Book: Triangles

Hello World!

My journaling adventure this week was inspired by a freebie pattern set I acquired from CREATIVE MARKET.

Every week, starting on Monday, they give away a handful of free content for those registered with a free account. The free items vary, but they often include digital graphics or fonts. This week I was like a kid in a candy store grabbing them all. These particular items are free 8/10/15 – 8/16/15.

Creative Market Free Goods

If you are an artist or crafty individual, or wish you were and want to gaze at pretty things-Creative Market is the place!

You won’t stop at the freebies either. Once you start browsing you will inevitably buy something. All items come with at least a Simple License, meaning you can use the item for personal use. Imagine the possibilities for greeting cards, invitations, wall art- or in my case, Project Life cards.

I had been searching for the perfect paper to use for this photo, and I was immediately inspired by the Triangle Seamless Pattern set by Curly_Pat. I used my Silhouette software to create 3×4″ journal cards from these patterns which I then printed and cut. The other embellishments were made from scrapbook paper and various stamps. I am especially fond of the hand stamped camera pattern- and I will definitely use this technique again.
